2023 FINALS DAY
Youth Shield (Scratch & Handicap) Finals 2023
The premier Junior Team finals for the county were hosted by Crondon GC. This year, both holders were back to defend their titles won in 2022. The Scratch League final oozed quality with a ‘who's who' of Essex junior golf. Romford, fielded the same side as last year and demonstrated their class and experience with a fine 3½-1½ win over Colchester to retain the shield.
The Handicap League saw a return to the winner's circle for Bentley (Eagles) also. With 3 players retained from last year's final, Bentley were made to work hard by their opponents, The Burstead. In all but one match the difference was only a hole! The final score 4-1.
Congratulations to all our finalists this year and to the clubs, Junior Organisers and players who entered and set out on the journey way back in April. We look forward to next year with anticipation and a few changes.

Thorndon Park Golf Club
2021 Youth Shield Scratch Champions
The 2021 Youth Shield final was played at The Warren Golf Club on Sunday 12th September with Thorndon Park playing against Colchester.
A gentle breeze with a little autumn sunshine braking through the clouds greeted the players on the first tee. The standard of golf on display was excellent and kept both sets of supporters entertained throughout the final. In the top match Micah Blowers from Colchester took on Charlie Croker for Thorndon Park, and following a close fought battle Micah finally took the point for Colchester. After 10 holes it was also looking good for Colchester in match 2 as Oliver Baker was 2 up on Rory Bennet, but Rory managed to turn things around and eventually won 2up on the 18th green. Louis Vallis had already completed a comfortable win in match 5 and Jack Boyd also completed a good win in match 3 meaning that Thorndon Park had secured the trophy that had just eluded them in 2019. The only remaining match was allowed to run it's course as they were already on the 18th hole, and this tight battle concluded with a 2up win for Colchester's Edward Mason.
On receiving the Youth Shield trophyThorndon Park team Captain, Louis Vallis, said it was a great match and congratulated the Colchester team on making it so. Our congratulations to Thorndon Park on their victory. An excellent match for all the supporters to witness.
Many thanks to The Warren Golf Club for hosting this event as part of our finals day.
Congratulations to Colne Valley Golf Club
2021 Youth Shield Handicap Champions
The 2021 Handicap league final was played between Colne Valley and Thorpe Hall Golf Clubs. The Warren Golf Club were the hosts on a typically autumnal morning on Sunday 12th September.
A large number of supporters were kept entertained throughout the final by two teams who clearly enjoyed the experience. In the first match out Abigail March took an early lead over Millie Tillyer and was 4up at the turn, but Millie made a strong fight back on the back nine, taking the match down the 18th hole, Unfortunately she just ran out of holes, Abigail prevailing by 1 hole, first blood to Colne Valley. Edward Reeves secured a second point for Colne Valley with a good victory in match 3 as the remaining matches approach the end of their rounds. Ali Abbas Haji took a point for Thorpe Hall, closing his match out on the 17th green just as match 2 was approaching the 18th green. Ralph Barker-Smith held his nerve to hang on to a 1up victory , giving Colne Valley the third point they needed to secure the trophy. Match 5 also concluded down the 18th hole as Emily Dixon secured another narrow win, this time for Thorpe Hall.. Both teams can be proud of the way they played, and their achievement in making it into the final.
It was a great final, which was enjoyed by all spectators, our congratulations to both teams, and particularly to Colne Valley for their success.
Our thanks to The Warren Golf Club for hosting this event and extending a warm welcome to all involved in finals day.

Handicap League Final 2019
The 2019 Handicap league final was played between Chelmsford and Wanstead Golf Clubs. Frinton Golf Club were the hosts on a typically autumnal morning on Sunday 16th September.
A large number of supporters were kept entertained throughout the final by two teams who clearly enjoyed the experience. The first two matches to finish were match 2 and match 3, in which both Lauren Gowers and Rosie Boyce registered substantial wins for Chelmsford. Wanstead finally picked up their first point with a hard fought victory for Max Shepherd over Sam Calvert, 3&2 being the final score in that match. In match 5 Shinil Balakrishnan brought Wanstead level on points with Chelmsford, 2 - 2, as he cruised to a 7&5 win in his match with Amy Caldon. So the final result all came down to match 4 between Chelmsford's Megan Dawson and Josh Hussein from Wanstead. Eventually this match went Josh's way 4&3 to ensure the trophy would be going down to north London. Both teams can be proud of the way they played, and their achievement in making it into the final.
It was a great match which was enjoyed by all spectators, our congratulations to both teams, and particularly to Wanstead for their success.
Our thanks to Frinton Golf Club for hosting this event and extending a warm welcome to all involved in finals day.
YOUTH SHIELD
Scratch League Final
The 2019 Youth Shield final was played at Frinton Golf Club on Sunday 15th September with Thondon Park playing against 2017 winners, Chelmsford.
A gentle breeze with a little autumn sunshine braking through the clouds greeted the players on the first tee. The standard of golf on display was excellent and kept both sets of supporters entertained throughout the final. Junior county players William Horne ,Thorndon Park, and Harvey Sullivan, Chelmsford, went out in match 1 and the anticipated epic encounter did not disappoint. Will Horne started the better of the two and through 9 holes held a 3up lead. But Harvey was not done and by the 17th tee had reduced the deficit to just 1 down. Harvey managed a win on the par 5 18th to finally get back to all square and take the match into extra holes.
Meanwhile in match 2 Sophie Wheeler registered Thorndon Park's first point with a 3&2 win over Lewis Wright, and in match 3 Louis Vallis made it two points for Thorndon Park with a 2&1 victory. Matt O'Connor got Chelmsford on the scoreboard with a 3&1 win over Alex Maplesden in match 4.
Harvey and Will halved their first extra hole, and this match now looked as though it was going to be the decider as Harry Crocker was well up for Chelmsford in match 5. On the 2nd tee Harvey missed the fairway left but Will's driver broke as he was playing his tee shot causing his ball to veer right into a hedge, a cruel piece of bad luck. As they both arrived at the green Will graciously conceded defeat to Harvey who had played an excellent approach shot onto the green in two. At the same moment Harry Crocker completed his match with a 3&2 win for Chelmsford, giving them an overall 3 - 2 victory.
On receiving the Youth Shield trophy Chelmsford team Captain, Carter Rowe, said it was a great match and congratulated Thorndon Park on making it so. Our congratulations to Chelmsford on their victory.
Many thanks to Frinton Golf Club for hosting this event as part of our finals day.
