Essex Amateur Championship Sunday AM Rules
ESSEX AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP A Championship meeting shall be held each year to decide the Essex Amateur Championship, the Esplen Trophy and the Jubilee Trophy. The Amateur Championship of the County shall be open to any amateur who qualifies under paragraph 2 and 2.1 of the County Regulations. The Amateur Championship shall be decided by a 72-hole Stroke Play Competition. The top 42 players and ties on the first day will qualify for the final 36 holes. The competitor returning the lowest gross aggregate shall be the winner. The Essex County Hard Card will apply. CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP (THE ESPLEN TROPHY) Played in conjunction with the Essex Amateur Championship and open to all affiliated Clubs. Stroke Play Competition decided over 36 holes played on the first day of the Championship. The winning Club being that which has the lowest gross aggregate of their best two scores taken from up to three nominated players. In the event of a tie the result will be decided on the scores over the last 18, 9, 6, 3, or 18th hole on the card. (Please note: If no players are nominated, the scores of the two players with the lowest handicaps shall be used).
The Essex Golf Union's Spectator Code will be in effect during this event.
Essex Golf CODE OF CONDUCT
The Board of Essex Golf has resolved to adopt the following Code of Conduct as part of the Rules of Essex Golf and Local Rules for Essex Golf events.
1. This code applies to all players and their caddies participating in golf events under the control and regulation of Essex Golf. This includes all Inter Club Knockout competitions.
2. All persons covered by this code of conduct must adhere to standards of golfing conduct and sportsmanship specified in the Rules of Golf or commonly accepted by the Affiliated Clubs.
3. Breaches of this code of conduct may result in disciplinary proceedings being brought under the Essex Golf disciplinary code
4. Persons to whom this code applies must:
a. During practice days and from Registration through to the close of competition or match:
(i) conduct themselves according to the provisions and ‘spirit’ of Rule 1.2 within the Rules of Golf and must not act in a manner which might bring the game into disrepute, AND
(ii) Strive to maintain the good name and reputation of their Golf Clubs and other bodies administering golf.
NOTE: a serious breach or repetitive breaches of part (i) of this paragraph may lead to the disqualification of a player under Rule 1.2a.
b. Comply with the Rules and By-Laws of the host club and of Essex Golf.
c. Exercise proper care for the course, for example raking bunkers, replacing divots, repairing pitch and spike marks on greens.
d. Refrain from using threatening, abusive, profane or insulting language or gestures or otherwise being disrespectful to another person (players, caddies, spectators, referees or officials) during a golf event.
e. Refrain from committing golf equipment abuse or abuse to the course or host club’s property.
Essex Golf Championship events and all inter-club matches and individual Matchplay events where Essex Golf rules officials or county officials are in attendance, the following procedures will apply to any player who may be in breach of this code;
1st Offence at the event
The player will be issued with a first warning at the course/during the event. This warning may be issued by any Essex Golf Referee officiating at the event or member of the Essex Golf Championships Committee.
2nd Offence at the event
In the event of a 2nd offence (which does not have to be directly related to the first offence) the player will be informed that their actions will be reported to the Essex Golf Championships Committee under the County’s Disciplinary and Grievance Procedure for a breach of regulations. The decision to issue a warning will rest with the Lead Referee at the event, or if no rules officials are present, the Essex Golf official in charge of administration at the event.
Notwithstanding the above Code of Conduct, the Championships Committee may also disqualify a player at an event for serious misconduct in failing to meet the code’s standards (Rule 1.2b). In the event of such a disqualification at an event, this will be deemed as an offence under the Essex Golf Disciplinary and Grievance Procedure.
All Inter-Club Matches, Allan Lockwood Trophy Matches and Strokeplay events where Essex Golf rules officials or county officials are NOT in attendance.
A player who is reported for allegedly breaching the Code of Conduct at any of the above events will be referred to the Championships Committee. As a result of this the player‘s actions may be considered under the Essex Golf Disciplinary and Grievance procedure.
The player will be advised by the Championships Committee of any action taken as a result of such a referral.
Note: Any breach of the code by the player’s caddie may result in sanctions being imposed against the player
