Match Report – 2nd July 2023 – U14s League Match Vs Kent & Herts at Knebworth GC
Everyone was on time at the pick-up points. Thank you to the parents/guardians for their support.
We arrived early at the venue and to be informed that the Tee times had been pushed back by an hour and that the Team manager for Hertfordshire was not going to be in attendance. The Club professional/county coach was in charge for the day. The arrangements that had been made and agreed by Essex & Kent appeared to have been amended without our consultation or communicated to us. we were met by Lee LAUGHLIN who gave the players some advice about the course and the conditions.
Despite the earlier set back, the players took advantage of the extra time to practice and hit some range balls. Those who had not played the course before were taken to one side by Lee, to make notes, using his knowledge of the course. This proved very valuable during the matches. The players that had taken advantage of the practice round, had made very detailed notes, which they used on the course. The new players to the team adapted very well to the format and were pleased to received their County caps, which they proudly wore.
After a full meal, roast chicken and trimmings, The matches were played in a very competitive spirit with all the teams, reluctant to concede a hole.
Kent put up a very strong fight against all the Essex players, losing 5 to 3. Herts struggled to compete with both Essex and Kent losing 6 to 2 in both matches.
This result puts us in a very strong position in the league and Currently we have eight (8) points and only need half a point to get to the final in September.
