Essex second outing of the year saw the team travel to Sheerness Golf Club on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. It was a cold Saturday morning starting out with the foursomes matches. Leading us off was county captain Zac Chegwidden with his partner Shaun Mills, securing the first point with a comfortable win over their opponents Danny Jones and Leigh Hales. Match two saw Cassidy Steffens and Joe Tatam take on Conor Byers and Tony Adams, Kent managed to take the point with a 2 & 1 win. Match 3 and 4 was split spoils, both matches being halved. Carter Rowe and William Horne took on Jake Antoun and Jack Lee, Ben Tobin and Ross Dee took on George Young and Harry Knight, leaving the score 2-2 after the foursomes, making the singles interesting!
Afternoon singles was led out by the captain Zac Chegwidden, he took on George Young which saw him come out with a comfortable 4 & 3 win, the first point on the board in the singles for Essex. Second match was Shaun Mills Vs Harry Knight, a closely fought match where Harry came out on top, one up down the last hole. The third match saw Connor Byers take another point for Kent against Cassidy Steffens. The last five games are where Essex really turned the result round, Joe Tatam managed to win the last hole to half his match against Tony Adams. Will Horne coming into the team this year showing his class with a 2-1 victory over Jack Lee. Carter Rowe current county champion winning his match against Jake Antoun. The last two matches saw the experienced Ross Dee and Ben Tobin with convincing victories against Danny Jones and Lee Hales giving Essex a 7 ½ to 4 ½ victory.
Great result away from home against a strong Kent side. Thanks to Sheerness Golf Club for hosting this match.
