The first three matches were won relatively comfortably by the teams, with Chigwell coming out on top with a 2 to 1 lead. All to play for in the following three games. Match 4 was a close affair however, this went the way of The Warren along with match 5 making the game 3-2 in favour of The Warren. It all comes down to the final match to see who could bring the trophy home for their team.Match 6 was the decider on who would pick up the Norman Plum Trophy. The game went down the 18th and even then, this could not separate the teams with the game eventually tied and therefore crowning The Warren as the 2024 champions.

Woolston Manor Golf Club Succesfully defend
The Norman Plum Trophy beating Crondon Park Golf Club in a Play Off.
The 2021 Norman Plum Trophy Final between Crondon Park and Woolston Manor was played at The Warren Golf Club on a pleasant late summer's afternoon, part of the Essex Golf Union Finals Day on 12th September.
All six matches were keenly contested by two teams of players who were pleased to have the opportunity to represent their Club in a county competition final. Woolston Manor defending the title they had won in 2019.
As the matches entered the back nine only one match was showing a big advantage to one side, the others all remaining too close to call. Match 3 ended on the 13th green with a good win for Crondon Park.
The next three matches to finish all went to the 16th green or beyond, and with two wins for Woolston Manor and one more for Crondon Park the final was again in the balance at 2 points each.
Match 5 headed down the 18th hole all square, and with the tension starting to get to some of the players, Josh Taylor managed to hold his nerve and secure a narrow win for Crondon park. In the final match Woolston Manor held a 1up advantage on the 18th tee, and with a fantastic approach shot to the final hole going in for an eagle 3, they took the point and took the match into a playoff.
A large crowd of supporters and players followed to two nominated pairings down the first playoff hole, the water in front of the 1st green providing that extra challenge the players could have done without. Three players made it to the green, but it was Woolston Manor who stole the show holing a 15ft putt to win the hole and the match.
It was a great match for the spectators from both Clubs to enjoy. Both sets of players can be proud of their achievements this year.
The Essex Golf Union would like to thank The Warren Golf Club for hosting the event and their excellent hospitality.

Matches 1 and 2 concluded in favour of The Warren at the same time as match 6 finished on the 13thgreen with a comfortable win for the Chelmsford pair.
